COVID-19 Update
The Victoria City Rowing Club is working to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

***The status of our Youth Summer Camps, Learn to Rows, and other introductory programs are suspended until further notice.

Please contact vcrcprograms@gmail.com prior to registering for a program. We will put you on a mailing list that will update you on the status of our programs.***

  • Youth Programs Information

    You have signed up for a program, what else do you need to know?

    What to wear and bring? any type of athletic clothing that isn't too baggy, but remember to dress for the weather. Shoes are built into the boats, so bring footwear you are comfortable leaving on the docks, and please have socks to wear in the boat. Do not forget to bring lunch and snacks and a refillable water bottle (we do not have vending machines).

    We have showers/changerooms on site, and small "cellphone" lockers for small valuables only.

     

    Parking/pick-up drop-off: Please do not come all the way down to the club. Keep the firelane and trailer launch free. Drop off and pick-up at the upper parking lot.

     

    Admin:

    Signed up via a recreation centre? There is a mandatory $35.00 annual Rowing Canada and Rowing BC fee (not included with the fee paid at the recreation centre).. Please sign up via the Rowing Canada web registration website, by joining the "Youth Program via rec centre-RCA registration.  Click here for instructions on how to register.


    Please fill out our medical form and bring it to the club on Monday. We will have these same forms on hand if you have trouble printing it.

     

    Meet your coaches: Please go to the picnic table in front of the boathouse on the waterfront to meet your coaches and the programs coordinator. If you have any questions regarding forms, online registration or payments we will be there to help you or send an e-mail to our programs coordinator at vcrcprograms@gmail.com

     
  • Youth Introduction to Rowing is the perfect introduction for those who want to try the sport of rowing for the first time! This program will teach basic skills in rowing technique and boat handling with a focus on sculling boats. Come and see how fun and rewarding rowing can be!

    This program is for those brand new to rowing.  Participants will learn the basic movements of the rowing stroke in sculling boats (single, double, quad).   We will review the following elements of the sport of rowing for the participants: basic movements of the stroke; oar grip; balance drills; safety; terminology.   This is a must for anyone wanting to move into more advanced rowing programs!

  • Pre-requisite: Completion of either an 'Introduction to Rowing – Beginner', 'Summer Camp' , or  equivalent.

    The Intermediate program will build on the skills learned in the 'Beginner' or 'Summer Camp' programs.  Emphasis is on building a complete stroke; timing in crew boats; and enhancing your awareness of balance.

    The Youth Summer Camp (YSC) will provide a fun environment to build basic rowing skills! With two rows per day and a focus in sculling boats, the camp will be supplemented with games and activities to develop basic movements and flexibility. The YSC will keep the kids active and having fun learning about the sport of rowing!

  • This program is designed to fine tune small boat skills moving into the fall high school rowing season. 
    Participants will primarily row in singles and doubles, with a strong and focused technical emphasis.

    There is a minimum requirement of at least one week of summer programs (Summer Camp, Intro Beginner or Intro Intermediate), and Junior Program participants are welcome.

    Re-Boot 1: August 24th-28th

    Re-Boot 2: August 31st-September 4th

    ** Rowing Canada/Rowing BC fee ($35 until March 31, 2020, increasing to $39 April 1 2020) needs to be paid once per year (start of the year is April 1st).  For any subsequent programs this year you will not be required to pay the fee again.   • This camp is for experienced rowers who already have some experience in a single to build on their skills and comfort level in a single. Prerequisite is a minimum of one year in a competitive club program.

    * Fees include GST

    **Rowing Canada/Rowing BC fee ($35 until March 31, 2020, increasing to $39 April 1 2020) needs to be paid once per year (start of the year is April 1st).  For any subsequent programs this year you will not be required to pay the fee again.   • Become more comfortable in rowing in sweep boats. We will start with the basics of how to hold the handle and will work in different boat classes depending on the group size and the goal of the participants. Prerequisite is a minimum of one year in a competitive club program.
