Victoria City Rowing Club (VCRC) welcomes your club to participate in a Training Camp. We are located on beautiful Elk Lake, just north of the city of Victoria on Vancouver Island. Our site is special in many ways, as it is one of the few locations in Canada where teams can train year-round on the water and is home to the Canadian National Rowing Team and the University of Victoria Vikes.
Sick of Indoor Training??? The Erg getting to you???
VCRC offers training camps to teams looking for a location to get back on the water, during times they might not otherwise, or a place where a team can come together and make some "off-season" gains. In the past, we have hosted clubs from Alaska, Montreal, Calgary and Edmonton to a 2 to 6 day camp.

Our Boathouse:
Our Boathouse is fully equipped with a heated meeting/lounge room with a TV/VCR, kitchen, washrooms and change rooms with shower facilities, and an ergometer room.
Our Lake:
Elk/Beaver Lake is situated in a regional park, which is home to a number of species. This includes numerous mergansers, buffleheads, bald eagles, osprey and river otters. The distance from one tip of the lake to the other is 3.5 km (1.89 mile), which includes a 2 km straight stretch. However, if you choose to row around the shoreline of the lake, you are looking at an 8.5 km (4.6 mile) journey.
Our Equipment:
Our equipment includes a fleet of well maintained boats. Majority of our boats have been purchased in the past 7 years, including eights, fours/quads both straight and coxed, along with pairs/doubles, and singles. We also have the capability with some of the singles to attach floatation helpers for beginners. We can also provide coach boats fully equipped with the required safety equipment.
Coaching:
Either you can bring our own coach, or let us find one for you. We have access to several top quality coaches that may be available to lead or assist you to meet your camp objectives.
Additional Services:
We can also arrange for sessions with qualified professionals in different disciplines to further benefit your stay with us. For example:
- Sport Science - to analyze your training routine, and ensure that you are on the path to success.
- Nutrition – to educate on what nutrition requirements are optimal for your body’s performance.
- Core Stabilization – to introduce some key injury prevention techniques to your routine.
- Psychology – to establish some simple techniques to help build your mental strength.
- Guest Speakers – hear from the best of the best on how they achieved their goals.
