Junior Program - Volunteer Information

VCRC Junior Member Volunteer Bond

The Victoria City Rowing Club (VCRC) is a not-for-profit club in which volunteers play a large role in running the regattas hosted by VCRC. The Duelling Over a Grand Regatta hosted by VCRC is an important development regatta designed and run specifically for our junior program. The unique format of the regatta ensures that each crew will have at least 2 races over 2 days.  This provides great preparation for those multi-day regattas we attend later in the season (Brentwood Regatta and Shawnigan Lake School Regatta).

A parent/guardian of each Junior member registered in the Spring program (January to May) is required to contribute a minimum of 4 hours (one shift) of volunteer time to the Duelling Over a Grand regatta.

As part of registration, please provide a Volunteer Bond, in the form of a cheque for $100 per athlete and payable to VCRC. If a family does not fulfill the volunteer requirement VCRC will cash the Volunteer Bond.

The volunteer requirement can be met by:

1. Volunteering on the DOG Regatta Committee

  • Regatta Chair (1-2 volunteers)
  • Draw and Results coordinator (1-2 volunteers)
  • Regatta Site Coordinator (1-2 volunteers)
  • Safety Officer (1-2 volunteers)
  • Volunteer Coordinator (1-2 volunteers)
  • Concession coordinator (1-2 volunteers)
  • Registration coordinator (1-2 volunteers)
2. Volunteering one 4-hour shift at DOG Regatta
  • Dock marshal, finish line, control commission, results, boat driving, set-up, take-down
Job descriptions are posted on the Junior website. Sign up is ongoing. The Regatta Committee formation is ongoing, but will be set by January 31st.

Note: If a family is unable to volunteer during DOG, please contact Club Manager, Brenda Taylor to arrange an alternative opportunity for fulfilling the volunteer requirement.
